The Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers

This week we are making a post a day on Catholic Social Teaching.  Keep coming back to explore what our Summer Service Trip volunteers had to say about each of the seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching.  The featured theme for today is...

The Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers

How the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops describes it:
The economy must serve the people, not the other way around.  Work is more than a way to make a living; it is a form of continuing participation in God's creation.  If dignity of work is to be protected, the basic rights of workers must be respected--the right to productive work, to decent and fair wages, to organize and join unions, to private property, and to economic initiative.

How our Volunteers describe it:
  • We are all called to continue God's work by following our calling.
  • People have the right to work in a safe and fulfilling environment with fair compensation.
How do YOU live with respect for the Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers?
